From a modest theological college in Machakos to a fully chartered university with two campuses, our purpose has never changed: educate the whole person for the glory of God and the good of society.
Scott Christian University, formerly Scott Theological College, was established in 1962 as the national theological college of the Africa Inland Church Kenya, to provide training for church ministries at an advanced academic level.
The college was named in memory of Peter Cameron Scott, who led the African Inland Mission in Kenya in 1895, which later developed Africa Inland Church as one of its ministries. In 1989 the college was accredited by ACTEA. In 1997, the Commission for University Education in Kenya granted the institution a Letter of Interim Authority to operate as a private university — and in 2010 it was granted a full Charter as Scott Christian University.
Today the university offers programmes from certificate through PhD, across three schools, and on two campuses — Machakos (main) and Eldama Ravine.
We are forming the whole person — intellect, character and spirit — to bring transformation to the society they serve.
For the sustainable change of individuals dedicated to God's service across the church, the academy and the marketplace.
Drawn from Ephesians 4. The Greek phrase that has anchored our work since the college was founded sixty-two years ago.
They show up in the chapel, the classroom and the office. Every member of the SCU community — staff, faculty and student — is asked to embody them.
Our chancellor, vice-chancellor and deans serve a community of staff and students drawn from across Kenya, East Africa and beyond.
